Egypt entry rules

Citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, the EU, the UK, the US, Canada, Serbia and Australia do not need to arrange a visa for Egypt in advance: the stay is up to 30 days. Citizens of Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova apply for an e-visa online in advance. Citizens of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Israel and Türkiye need a visa from a consulate before the trip.

What is checked at the border

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date.
  • An e-Visa printout, a travel itinerary and a hotel booking or the places you plan to visit.
  • For a business or family visit, a company letter or an invitation.
  • The visa on arrival is bought at the bank counter in the airport's passport control area.

Overstay penalties

Overstaying by a few days may bring a fine; if you overstay by more than a month, you must pay the fine before boarding. The official site gives no amount.

How can I stay in Egypt longer?
A visa-free stay does not give the right to live in the country. A longer stay needs a long-term visa or a residence permit: one-year investor residence while setting up a company, renewable for 6 or 12 months via GAFI, work permit — arranged in Egypt by the employer through the Ministry of Labour, residence permit — applied for only in Cairo, at the Interior Ministry's Immigration Department, five-year multiple-entry visa: up to 3 months per entry.
