About the country

Panama is a dollarised Central American economy with the Panama Canal and a large banking sector. Since May 2021 it has run a digital nomad visa (Trabajador Remoto) for remote employees and freelancers with foreign income from $36,000/year. Territorial taxation exempts any income earned abroad from Panamanian tax.

Worth knowing

  • !The visa is capped at 18 months (9+9, no further extensions) and leads to no permanent residence
  • !Panama remains on the EU tax blacklist (confirmed by the list update of 17.02.2026), although it left the FATF grey list in October 2023
  • !The application can only be filed in person after entering the country, through a Panamanian lawyer under a notarised power of attorney

Common questions

How can I move to Panama?
The catalogue covers these routes: residence permit. The reference section describes 8 relocation programmes in total, with official conditions and links to government sources. Which route fits depends on whether you have a job, a business, property or relatives in the country - we'll go through it on a free consultation and pick the one that works.
What services can I arrange in Panama?
1 option across 5 areas: residence permit, crypto exchange, flights, short-term stays, VPN abroad, health insurance, buying, selling and 2 more. Every option comes with a price, a timeline and the scope of work; the provider is a licensed local expert.
Can services in Panama be arranged remotely, without flying in?
No: this service requires you to be there in person - usually for biometrics, a signature at the bank or filing at a consulate. What exactly has to be done in person is covered on a free consultation before any work starts.
What does a consultation cost, and is there a markup on top?
The consultation is free and commits you to nothing. You sign the contract directly with the expert and pay their official price list - Pactors adds no markup and takes no commission from you.
