The diploma is part of the European education area, with a caveat

Georgian higher education takes part in the Bologna Process; universities are accredited by the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE), a member of ENQA. At the end of 2024 the centre's registration in the European EQAR register was suspended following an ENQA review; in July 2026 ENQA found the system broadly compliant with European standards, but the formal decision on reinstatement in EQAR is expected only in autumn 2026. This doesn't mean a diploma is automatically recognised in a particular country — on relocation, separate recognition may be required.

What we need from you

  • 1A passport
  • 2An education document (a school certificate or a diploma)
  • 3An English certificate — helpful but not required: most universities accept their own entrance test
  • 4For the student residence permit — a bank statement with a balance from GEL 6,000 (the student's or a parent's)

Frequently asked questions

Can a parent evidence the funds instead of the student?
Yes. If the parent already holds legal resident status in Georgia, their account with a balance from GEL 6,000 can support the child's residence application — proof of the relationship is also required.
How long is the student residence card issued for?
Study-based residence is issued for between 6 months and the end of the current programme. Moving up a year means renewing the status — a renewal can be filed no earlier than 90 days before the current document expires.
Can I work in Georgia on a student residence permit?
Yes, but with restrictions in certain fields — that's worth checking individually for your situation.
