Financial requirement

A single-entry visa costs 25 US dollars, a multiple-entry visa 50. Payment is made through the electronic payment gateway when applying. If the application is refused, the money is not returned.

Timelines and rights

Review time

The application may be made online by the applicant, or through inviting organisations and institutions. The visa fee is paid through the electronic payment gateway and is not refunded if the application is refused.

Right to work

Working in Vietnam requires a work permit under the Labour Code and an inviting organisation. Such an employee is issued a visa marked LĐ1 or LĐ2 and a temporary residence card for up to 2 years.

How the process runs

3–7 days
  1. ApplicationPassport details go into the form on the e-visa portal evisa.gov.vn. The system issues an application code. Applications are accepted around the clock.
  2. Photo and passportA 4×6 cm photo in JPEG under 2 MB: white background, face straight on, no glasses or headwear. The passport page with your details is uploaded separately.
  3. Paying the feeThe fee is paid on the portal once the application code has been issued: USD 25 for a single entry, USD 50 for multiple entries.
  4. DecisionNo more than three working days. The clock starts when the form is complete and the fee has arrived.
  5. Printing the visaYou check the result by application code on the portal and print it. Results are issued Monday to Friday, public holidays excepted.

What comes next: permanent residence and citizenship

Route to permanent residence

A permanent resident card is granted to a foreign national sponsored by a father, mother, spouse or child who is a Vietnamese citizen living in the country, where the foreign national has resided temporarily in Vietnam continuously for at least 3 years. It is also considered for those awarded Vietnamese orders and honorary titles, and for scientists and specialists temporarily living in the country. The Minister of Public Security decides within 4 months of the date of the complete set of documents.
