What is checked at the border

  • Health insurance: on entry you sign a declaration stating the purpose of your trip and that you are insured.
  • Purpose of the trip: if the officer decides the trip is not tourism, entry is refused.
  • Your address in Argentina — you give it on entry.

How to extend your stay

The 3-month tourist stay can be extended by another 3 months at the Migration Directorate (DNM) or its local offices. Once the stay has expired it cannot be extended — you need an exit permit.

Overstay penalties

Overstayers pay an exit-permit fee when leaving — ARS 40,000 (≈ $26) for non-Mercosur nationals under the DNM fee table. If unpaid, it becomes a debt, and you cannot re-enter until it is settled.
