Cyprus entry rules

Citizens of Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Israel, the EU, the UK, the US, Canada, Serbia and Australia do not need to arrange a visa for Cyprus in advance: the stay is up to 90 days. Citizens of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Türkiye need a visa from a consulate before the trip.

Checked against official sources on 8 October 2026.

Entry rules by passport

For a tourist trip. Checked on 8 October 2026 against the official sources listed below the table.

Cyprus counts its 90 days separately from Schengen: days in Cyprus do not count towards the Schengen limit. A valid multiple-entry Schengen visa, a D visa or a Schengen residence permit replaces the Cypriot visa — except for citizens of Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

What is checked at the border

  • Border officers may check the purpose of your trip and ask you to prove you can cover your expenses in Cyprus. A visa alone does not guarantee entry.
  • There is no fixed daily amount: border officers decide case by case, looking at the purpose and length of the stay, hotel bookings or hosting by a Cyprus resident.
  • Enter only via Larnaca or Paphos airports or the ports of Larnaca, Limassol, Latsi or Paphos. Entering through airports or ports in the north of the island is illegal.
  • Cyprus does not use the EU Entry/Exit System (EES): passports are still stamped by hand.
  • For a visa, the passport must be valid for 3 months after you leave Cyprus, issued within the last 10 years and have two blank pages. Travel medical insurance with cover of at least €30,000 (≈ $33,600) is required.

How to extend your stay

The Migration Department can extend a short-stay C visa, but only up to 90 days from the date of entry in any 180 days. It is free for force majeure or humanitarian reasons and costs €30 (≈ $34) for serious personal reasons. Visas issued at the border cannot be extended.

Overstay penalties

Overstaying is a criminal offence: up to 12 months in prison and/or a fine of up to CY£1,000 (≈ €1,709, ≈ $1,910). A return decision may come with an entry ban, normally of up to 5 years.
