General Employment Policy (GEP)
Employment in Hong Kong under a confirmed job offer for a position requiring special skills, knowledge or experience that are not available on the local labour market. The scheme has no quota and is not tied to any sector. For those who have held the status for at least 2 years and have an annual assessable income of HK$2,000,000 or more, the page states that the status may be extended for 6 years at once without the employment condition (the top-tier stream).
Top Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS)
Attracting highly paid professionals and graduates of the world's leading universities. A job offer in Hong Kong is not required at the time of application. Categories A and B have no quota. Category C is limited by an annual quota, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (QMAS)
A points-based scheme for the entry of qualified professionals to settle in Hong Kong. A job offer is not required at the time of application.
Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG)
The right to stay in, or return to, Hong Kong for work after completing a local accredited programme. The scheme has no quota and is not tied to any sector.
Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP)
Employment in Hong Kong for residents of mainland China who have special skills, knowledge or experience not available on the local market. The scheme has no quota and is not tied to any sector.
New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme (New CIES)
Entry to and residence in Hong Kong on the basis of placing capital in permissible investment assets. The scheme was launched on 1 March 2024 in place of the former CIES, suspended since 15 January 2015. An investor's dependants are not prohibited from working or studying in Hong Kong.
Entry for Residence as Dependants
Reunion with a relative who is a permanent resident of Hong Kong or who holds work, investment, study or talent status.
Visa or entry permit for study (Entry for Study)
Admission to a registered educational institution in Hong Kong.
Entry for Investment as Entrepreneurs
Establishing a new business in Hong Kong, or joining an existing business, under the General Employment Policy (GEP). Applications from founders of start-ups supported by government programmes (StartmeupHK, the Cyberport incubation programme and the like) are considered on a favourable basis.
Right of abode in the Hong Kong SAR (Right of Abode)
Continuous ordinary residence in Hong Kong for at least seven years and the intention to take Hong Kong as the place of permanent residence.
