Stamp 1G — Third Level Graduate Programme

An extension of permission after an Irish qualification, in order to find graduate-level work.

Start-up Entrepreneur Programme (STEP)

Student Permission (Stamp 2)

Permission to stay for full-time study on a programme from the ILEP list. Separate criteria for higher education programmes and language courses are published on the same domain in a PDF dated 21 March 2025.

Join non-EEA family member

A long stay category D visa and permission to live in Ireland with a family member who is not an EEA national. The financial thresholds have been moved to the Financial Thresholds for Non-EEA Family Reunification page and were changed on 12 June 2026.

Naturalisation (Irish citizenship)

Acquiring Irish citizenship by decision of the Minister for Justice after a set period of residence. The list of stamps that count towards reckonable residence is published separately by the ISD and calculated with the Naturalisation Residency Calculator.

Citizenship

Grounds: Entitlement to Irish citizenship through a parent or a grandparent born in Ireland. The fee for registration in the Foreign Births Register is not published on the pages checked — it has to be looked up with the DFAT.

Documents

The application is made online on the website of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Where the entitlement comes through a grandparent, you attach the documents for the Irish parent plus a certified copy of their valid identity document — passport, driving licence or national ID card — or a certified copy of the death certificate.
