A visa for those who work remotely for foreign employers or clients and want to live in Kazakhstan for a while. The applicant confirms that the income comes from abroad and does not depend on a Kazakhstani employer. The visa is issued by embassies and consulates of Kazakhstan: you cannot apply from inside the country. Renewal is decided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. You may not take a job with a local company on this visa, and it does not lead to permanent status.

Without a bank statement for 6 months showing an income of 3,000 dollars a month or more, documents for the Neo Nomad Visa will not be accepted — another visa status is needed.

I need a residence permit or a route to Kazakhstani citizenship

The Neo Nomad Visa is a visa, not permanent resident status. A residence permit in Kazakhstan is obtained through a separate procedure.

I plan to stay in Kazakhstan beyond the term of the visa and its renewal

After the first year and one renewal the visa comes to an end — you have to obtain a new status of stay or leave and file the documents afresh.

There is no minimum length of stay. Anyone staying longer than 30 days obtains a temporary residence permit.

The first visa is valid for up to 1 year. It may be renewed for up to a further 1 year — the renewal application is filed not with an embassy but with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, while already in the country. In total, on one visa and with the renewal, you may stay in Kazakhstan for up to 2 years in a row — after that another status of stay is needed.

Route to permanent residence

Permanent residence is a separate permit. The applicant confirms funds in an account of at least 1,320 MCI; ethnic Kazakhs, former citizens of Kazakhstan and nationals of Russia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan are exempt from this. The residence card is issued for 10 years, the service is provided within 17 calendar days, or 7 working days on an expedited basis.

Route to citizenship

Citizenship is applied for after 5 years of permanent residence or 3 years of marriage to a citizen of Kazakhstan. For those who have come from the former Soviet republics and have a close relative who is a Kazakhstani, the residence period is not counted. The decision is taken by the President.
