Digital nomad visa in Colombia
Colombia's official Visa V in the «Nómada Digital» category (Resolution 5477 of 2022) — up to 2 years of stay for remote employees and freelancers with income from foreign employers and clients, without the right to work for Colombian companies.
This is not a general residence permit but a separate category set out in law — Visa V «Nómada Digital», introduced by Resolución 5477 de 2022 of Colombia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in force since 2022 specifically for remote workers and digital nomads.
A stay of more than 183 calendar days within any 365 days makes you a tax resident of Colombia, with an obligation to declare worldwide income on the progressive income tax scale (top rate about 39%). The visa in itself does not exempt you from this rule — income from foreign clients does not automatically become untaxed if you stay for a long time.

What we need from you
- 1A passport of a country exempt from a visa for a short stay in Colombia (Russia and most CIS countries are on that list)
- 2Confirmed income from a foreign source — at least 3 Colombian minimum wages (SMMLV) a month: in 2026 that is COP 5,252,715 (about USD 1,600 at the rate as at July 2026), evidenced by statements for the last 3 months without averaging
- 3A contract, an employment certificate or another document about remote work for a foreign company/client (for owners of their own foreign company — a letter about working for it remotely)
- 4Medical insurance for the whole period of stay with cover of at least USD 30,000: accident, illness, maternity, disability, hospitalisation, death and repatriation (an ordinary travel policy is not suitable)
- 5A current criminal record certificate from the country of origin and/or the last place of residence — in practice consulates ask for it more and more often, so we recommend preparing it in advance
