Intra-corporate transfer in Hungary
A temporary residence permit for employees transferred within a single company or corporate group. It covers managers, specialists and trainees with higher education who have had at least three months of continuous work at the sending company. The permit also allows mobility between company branches in different EU countries.
Who may apply
The programme is intended for employees of large organisations transferred within a corporate group. There are two main routes: a direct transfer from outside the EU, or mobility between EU countries.
First transfer to Hungary from outside the EU
- Third-country nationals working for the company abroad
- At least 3 months of continuous work in the company before the transfer
- Higher education for managers, specialists and trainees
- Proof of the link between the Hungarian and the foreign company
Long-term mobility within the EU
- People holding an intra-corporate transfer permit in another EU state
- Transferred between branches of the same company in different EU countries
- The same documents on qualifications and experience are required
- The application is filed no later than 20 days before mobility begins
By category of employee
- Managers and specialists: the permit is issued for up to 3 years
- Trainees: the permit is issued for up to 1 year
- All categories require the employer to confirm the necessary experience
- The right to work only for the host organisation or within the group of companies

Documents to gather
The full set of documents is required whether you file through an embassy or in Hungary. The documents must prove qualifications, work experience, financial capacity and the link between the companies.
- Valid passport
- Employment contract or appointment order confirming at least 3 months of continuous work in the company before the transfer
- Diploma or certificate of higher education (compulsory for all categories)
- Document proving the link between the Hungarian organisation and the foreign company (register extract, certificate of group membership or a statement on the corporate structure)
- Statement (letter) from the Hungarian employer confirming the candidate's experience and suitability for the transfer
- Statement (letter) from the foreign company confirming that the candidate will have permission to stay in Hungary for this type of work
- Document on financial means (account statement, tax certificate of income or an employer's certificate of salary) — it must prove the ability to cover subsistence, accommodation and medical care
- Health insurance policy or a document proving the financial ability to pay for medical care
- One photograph meeting the standard for identity documents (4x3 cm)
How the process runs
Filing and examining the permit takes up to 70 days. The application must be filed 20 days before the intended start of the work or the mobility.

Preparing and collecting documents
2-3 weeksCollect all the necessary documents, including documents from both employers (Hungarian and foreign), proof of financial means and health insurance. Make sure you have originals or certified copies.

Choosing how to file
1 dayDecide whether you will file through a Hungarian embassy or consulate (abroad), through the Enter Hungary platform (online from Hungary) or in person at a regional OIF office in Hungary.

Filing the application
1 dayFile the application no later than 20 days before the intended start of work. When filing in person in Hungary, pay the state fee of HUF 39,000. When filing through Enter Hungary, pay HUF 26,000 by bank card online.

Examination by the authority
21 daysThe immigration authority processes the application. At this stage a request for missing documents may be sent. The time taken by such a request does not count towards the processing period.

Decision on the merits
up to 70 daysThe authority takes the final decision within 70 days of filing. Requests for missing documents (hiánypótlás) do not count towards this period, so the maximum real timescale may be longer.

Issue of the permit
3-5 daysOnce the decision is positive, the permit is produced and handed to the applicant. You receive the document confirming the right to live and work in Hungary.

Starting work
1 dayYou may start work at the Hungarian organisation in accordance with the conditions of the permit. Remember that you may work only for the host organisation or within its corporate group.
Trips, renewal and the grace period
There is no separate residence threshold to obtain it. It is renewed if you have spent at least 90 days in Hungary within any 180 days.
The permit may be renewed if you have spent at least 90 days in Hungary within any 180-day period. The renewal application must be filed no later than 30 days before the current permit expires, through the Enter Hungary platform or in person at a regional OIF office. However, the maximum period of validity is 3 years from the first issue for managers and specialists (1 year for trainees), and even on renewal that maximum cannot be exceeded. Once the maximum period has run out, the permit can no longer be renewed on this ground.
