How the process runs

Filing and examining the permit takes up to 70 days. The application must be filed 20 days before the intended start of the work or the mobility.

  1. 1

    Preparing and collecting documents

    2-3 weeks

Collect all the necessary documents, including documents from both employers (Hungarian and foreign), proof of financial means and health insurance. Make sure you have originals or certified copies.

  2. 2

    Choosing how to file

    1 day

Decide whether you will file through a Hungarian embassy or consulate (abroad), through the Enter Hungary platform (online from Hungary) or in person at a regional OIF office in Hungary.

  3. 3

    Filing the application

    1 day

File the application no later than 20 days before the intended start of work. When filing in person in Hungary, pay the state fee of HUF 39,000. When filing through Enter Hungary, pay HUF 26,000 by bank card online.

  4. 4

    Examination by the authority

    21 days

The immigration authority processes the application. At this stage a request for missing documents may be sent. The time taken by such a request does not count towards the processing period.

  5. 5

    Decision on the merits

    up to 70 days

The authority takes the final decision within 70 days of filing. Requests for missing documents (hiánypótlás) do not count towards this period, so the maximum real timescale may be longer.

    3-5 days

Once the decision is positive, the permit is produced and handed to the applicant. You receive the document confirming the right to live and work in Hungary.

You may start work at the Hungarian organisation in accordance with the conditions of the permit. Remember that you may work only for the host organisation or within its corporate group.
