  • Funds for the stay; no amount is set officially. Holders of a Mexican visa are exempt.
  • Where you will stay and for how long.
  • The FMM migration form is needed only when entering by land; at airports it is generated automatically.

How to extend your stay

A visitor stay cannot be extended: 180 days from entry at most, then you must leave. Changing status inside Mexico is possible only with family ties to a Mexican citizen or resident, or on humanitarian grounds.

Overstay penalties

An overstay can be regularised if you apply to INM within 60 days after your stay expires, with a fine of 20 to 100 daily minimum wages (now calculated in UMA units). Anyone who ignores an INM order to leave is deported and barred from re-entry for a period set by INM.
