Thailand entry rules

Citizens of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Israel, the EU, the UK, the US, Canada, Türkiye, Serbia and Australia do not need to arrange a visa for Thailand in advance: the stay is 15 to 30 days depending on the passport. Citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia and Moldova apply for an e-visa online in advance.

What is checked at the border

  • Proof of accommodation and an onward ticket leaving Thailand within 30 days of arrival.
  • Funds: 20,000 baht (≈ $600) per person or 40,000 baht (≈ $1,200) per family, in cash or equivalent.
  • The TDAC digital arrival card: free, submitted within 3 days before arrival and for every entry.
  • Purpose: tourism only; for other purposes or frequent trips the embassy advises getting a visa.
  • Via land border checkpoints, no more than two visa-free entries per calendar year (except nationals of Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore).

How to extend your stay

The 30-day visa-free stay can be extended by up to 30 more days at a Thai immigration office, at the officer's discretion.

Overstay penalties

A fine of 500 baht (≈ $15) per day, capped at 20,000 baht (≈ $600); overstaying more than 90 days means deportation and an entry ban whose length depends on the overstay.

How can I stay in Thailand longer?
A visa-free stay does not give the right to live in the country. A longer stay needs a long-term visa or a residence permit: work & business visa, study visa, staying with family visa, retirement visa, destination Thailand Visa (DTV) — for remote work (digital nomads, freelancers) and activities such as Muay Thai and Thai cooking, long-Term Resident (LTR) — 10-year visa.
