From the medical test until the residence visa is issued the partner advises staying in the country. No agency regulation forbids leaving, but a trip breaks the order of the steps: the fingerprinting and the medical test usually have to be repeated and the timeline slips. Better not to plan trips in that window.
A visa application consists of government fees, the medical test and biometrics — those items do not compress. An offer noticeably below the market means either that some of the steps will not be carried out or that the documents will be forged. Check item by item what the price covers, and do not transfer money before there is a contract.
What the UAE remote worker visa is
The UAE issues a one-year residence permit to people who live in the country but earn outside it. Dubai's residency authority states the condition plainly: prove a monthly income of at least $3,500 or the equivalent in another currency.
The visa is meant for employees only. Dividends, rental income and other passive income do not serve as a basis — you need an employer outside the UAE.
The status requires neither a company of your own in the UAE nor a sponsoring employer. That is what sets it apart from a work visa and from residence through company formation.

How a UAE residence visa works
A UAE residence visa is not a stamp in a passport but a chain of three documents. First comes the entry permit, then the residence visa itself, and only after that the Emirates ID, the resident's plastic card. Without an Emirates ID you cannot open an account, rent a home or get a phone line.

A visa always rests on a basis: property, your own company, employment, income from abroad. Once the basis is gone, the status is not renewed.
Midway through the procedure you have to come to the UAE for the medical test and fingerprinting. This is the only step that cannot be done remotely, and you cannot leave the country before the visa is issued: leaving resets the procedure.
Medical insurance is mandatory. Since 1 January 2025 a policy is a prerequisite for issuing and renewing a residence visa; the rule is addressed to private-sector employers and applies on a mandatory basis in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. An investor or freelancer sponsors themselves, so the policy is taken out in their own name.
What the remote worker visa does not allow
The frame is strict: working inside the UAE and carrying on commercial activity here are prohibited. The income has to come from an employer outside the country.
Anyone planning to hire people in the UAE, invoice local clients or open a business here needs a different basis — company formation or a freelancer licence.
Documents for the UAE remote worker visa
- A passport valid for at least six months
- An employment contract with an employer outside the UAE for at least a year
- A salary letter from the employer
- A six-month bank statement showing salary credits
The statement has to show regular salary credits — one-off transfers for the right amount do not settle the question.
Remote worker visa or freelancer licence
The difference is not the price but where the money comes from. The remote worker visa is for people whose income is already abroad; it does not allow working with clients inside the UAE. A freelancer licence allows you to operate in the UAE itself.

How to bring your family on a UAE residence visa
A resident with an Emirates ID sponsors their spouse, children and parents. On the golden visa the family gets residency for 10 years too. On the 2-year visa the spouse and children are handled the same way, while the Dubai immigration authority gives parents a 1-year residency.
The order is strict: the main applicant receives their status first, and only then does the family application start. Filing everything as one package will not work.
