Residence permit for work purposes (Autorização de residência para fins laborais)

Lei de Migração nº 13.445 of 24 May 2017; Decreto nº 9.199 of 20 November 2017; the normative resolutions of the National Immigration Council (CNIg). The procedure is entirely electronic, through the MigranteWeb system; attendance in person is not required. It is run by the Coordenação Geral de Imigração Laboral of the Ministry of Justice.

Residence permit by investment (Autorização de residência — realização de investimento)

Governed by the normative resolutions of the National Immigration Council (CNIg) within the framework of Lei de Migração nº 13.445/2017. The thresholds are set by resolutions RN 13 and RN 36, both amended by RN 49 of 25 June 2024.

Residence permit for study (Autorização de residência — estudo)

Lei de Migração nº 13.445/2017 and Decreto nº 9.199/2017. A change of course or educational institution must be reported to the Federal Police. The period of the residence permit does not coincide with the period of the study visa.

Residence permit and migrant card (Autorização de Residência e Carteira de Registro Migratório — CRNM)

The service is run by the Federal Police (Polícia Federal) through its migration units in the states.

Ordinary naturalisation (Naturalização ordinária)

The required period of residence must already have accrued at the time the application is filed. «Significant services» and professional abilities are assessed by the Migration Department of the National Secretariat of Justice.
