Czech business residence permit in Czechia
The business residence permit is a permit to live in the Czech Republic for foreign nationals who run a business, work in a licensed trade, are self-employed or sit on the governing body of a Czech commercial company or cooperative. It is granted on the basis of a long-stay business visa or of a residence permit already held in the country.

Who can apply
The applicant must be running a business, a licensed trade, be self-employed or be a statutory body or a member of the statutory body of a commercial company in the Czech Republic — and must also hold one of the two statuses below.
After a long-stay business visa
- Holders of a long-stay visa for the purpose of business apply for this residence permit with no requirement as to the period of residence in the country
After another residence permit
- The general rule is continuous residence in the Czech Republic of more than 5 years on any residence permit
- Holders of a residence permit for job-seeking or starting a business — an exception to the 5-year rule; they may apply at any time before that permit expires
- Holders of a residence permit for family reunification — an exception to the 5-year rule; they may apply after 3 years of residence in the Czech Republic or on reaching the age of 18

Documents to gather

- A passport
- Proof of accommodation in the Czech Republic
- Proof of income — your own and that of the people whose income is counted together with the applicant's
- Proof of registration in the relevant register — the commercial register, the register of trade licences or the register of liberal professions
- A certificate of no outstanding debts
- Comprehensive health insurance
- A photograph
- For statutory bodies of a commercial company or cooperative and their members — in addition, an extract from the commercial register, a certificate of no outstanding debts for the company and one for the applicant
How the process runs
The route from filing the application to collecting the residence card

Gather the documents
Prepare the complete package of documents in advance — an incomplete set may lead to the examination of the application being suspended.

Complete the application form
The form is completed online and printed, or the form is collected in person at a Ministry of the Interior office and filled in by hand in block Latin letters in Czech.

Book an appointment at a Ministry of the Interior office
Booking online or by telephone saves time but is not compulsory — without an appointment you will be seen in the order of the queue.

File the application in person at a Ministry of the Interior office
no later than the last day of validity of the current visa or residence permitThe application is filed in person only. If it is filed in time, you are lawfully present in the Czech Republic throughout the examination, even if the current permit has already expired.

Await the decision
60 daysThe clock stops if the proceedings are suspended or if there is another lawful ground for doing so. If missing documents are requested, the examination takes longer.

Find out the outcome of the examination
In your personal account the status of the application changes to 'preliminarily approved', 'under examination' or 'refused'; a refusal may be appealed within 15 days of receiving the notification.

Book an appointment to give biometric data
Once the application is approved, the appointment for giving biometrics is booked by telephone.

Give the biometric data
Bring your passport to the appointment; the date for collecting the finished card is agreed at the same time.

Collect the residence card
no later than 60 days after giving the biometricsThe biometric card must be collected within 60 days of the date the biometric data was given.

Renewal and the grace period
The business residence permit may be renewed an unlimited number of times, each time for a maximum of 2 years, provided the applicant continues to pursue the same purpose. The renewal application is filed no earlier than 120 days before, and no later than the last day of validity of the current permit — in person at a Ministry of the Interior office, by post, through a Data Box, by email with a recognised electronic signature or through an authorised representative. The administrative fee is 2,500 crowns, payable by card or bank transfer. The examination takes 60 days.
