Residence permit for employment (Άδεια διαμονής για εξαρτημένη εργασία, art. 15 of the Migration Code)

A residence permit for employment with a specific employer in a specific type of work; it sits in the «Work and professional activity» section of the official list of residence permit categories. The official ministry page carries the list of categories and the document packages for each of them (.docx files). Check the specific income amounts and state fees in the requirements file attached to the category.

Residence permit for study (Άδεια διαμονής για σπουδές, art. 33 of the Migration Code)

A residence permit on the ground of study — issue and renewal are governed by the ministry's explanatory documents (including circular 597406 «Χορήγηση και ανανέωση άδειας διαμονής λόγω σπουδών»). A separate category «3.1.1 Σπουδές (Άρθρο 33)» with its document package appears in the general list of residence permit categories on the ministry's website. Check the periods of validity and the income thresholds against the current version of the Migration Code (Law 5038/2023).

Residence permit for family reunification (Άδεια διαμονής για οικογενειακή επανένωση, art. 72 of the Migration Code)

Category «5.1.2 Family members of a third-country national (art. 72)» of the official list of residence permit categories. Separate provision is made for the initial issue to families formed in Greece (art. 80) and for residence permits for children born or living in Greece (art. 79-80). The legal basis is EU Directive 2003/86/EC, implemented by Presidential Decree 131/2006 (as amended by PD 113/2013), and the Migration Code (Law 5038/2023).

Permanent residence — long-term resident status (Άδεια διαμονής επί μακρόν διαμένοντος)

EU long-term resident status, category «6.1.1» of the official list of residence permit categories; provision is made for mobility to other EU countries (art. 98) and for residence permits for family members of a long-term resident (art. 99). The conditions follow the official ministry page and the explanatory notes to the Migration Code (Law 5038/2023). The income thresholds and the amount of the fee are not given on the page — check them against the current version of the code.

Second-generation residence permit (Άδεια διαμονής δεύτερης γενιάς)

Category «6.2» of the «Long-term residence» section of the official list of residence permit categories — for the children of migrants who grew up in Greece. No Greek language examination is required for this category. The document package is in the requirements file for category 6.2 on the ministry's page.

Greek citizenship by naturalisation (Ελληνική ιθαγένεια — πολιτογράφηση)

The Ministry of Migration and Asylum confirms that it is possible to apply for Greek citizenship by naturalisation. The competent body is the General Secretariat for Citizenship of the Ministry of the Interior (ΥΠΕΣ): check the residence period and the requirements of the PEG examination there, since consular pages are updated with a delay.
