UAE entry rules

Citizens of the EU, the US, the UK, Israel, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine do not need to arrange a UAE visa in advance: the stay is 30 to 90 days depending on the passport. Citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Moldova and Türkiye arrange a visa in advance.

What is checked at the border

  • A regular passport, not a service or diplomatic one, valid for at least 6 months on the date of entry.
  • The purpose of the trip is a visit. The agreement with Russia grants visa-free entry to those who do not intend to work, study or live in the UAE.

How to extend your stay

Citizens of Kazakhstan and Ukraine can extend the stay granted on arrival: up to 60 days from the date of entry in total. Citizens of Russia cannot extend: after 90 days in 180 they must leave.

Overstay penalties

AED 50 (≈ $14) for each day beyond the permitted stay. The Government of Dubai warns that the fine applies even for a few days.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a visa for the UAE?
Most passports in the table do not. Citizens of the EU, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Israel, Serbia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia do not arrange a visa in advance: the border officer stamps the passport on entry. Citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Moldova and Türkiye arrange a 30- or 60-day visa in advance through an airline, hotel or travel agency. For Uzbekistan and Armenia the UAE foreign ministry requires no visa in advance, but official sources give different stays.
How long can I stay in the UAE without a visa?
With a passport of the EU, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Israel, Serbia, Belarus, Azerbaijan or Georgia — 90 days: the stamp is multiple-entry and valid for 6 months from the date of entry. With a Russian passport — 90 days in any 180, under the visa waiver agreement. With a passport of Kazakhstan or Ukraine — 30 days from the date of entry.
Can the stay be extended?
Citizens of Kazakhstan and Ukraine can: up to 60 days from the date of entry in total. Citizens of Russia cannot: the agreement requires them to leave once 90 days in 180 have been used.
What passport do I need?
A regular passport valid for at least 6 months on the date of entry. Service and diplomatic passports follow other rules.
What happens if I overstay?
A fine of AED 50 (≈ $14) for each day beyond the permitted stay. The fine applies even for a few days.
Can I work in the UAE on a visa-free stay?
No. The agreement with Russia grants visa-free entry only to those who do not intend to work, study or live in the UAE. Work requires a residence visa and an Emirates ID, arranged through an employer or your own company.
