Golden Visa for outstanding students in the UAE

The only golden visa with no financial threshold at all — it is granted for academic results. There are two routes inside it with different terms: five years for outstanding school leavers, ten for the best university graduates. Graduates should not delay: no more than two years may have passed since finishing university.

Two routes, two different terms

The conditions depend on whether you are finishing school or university. One thing is common: the results are certified by the institution, not by the applicant.

School leavers — 5 years

  • An average score of no less than 95%
  • A recommendation letter from the Ministry of Education
  • Proof of academic excellence

University graduates — 10 years

  • A cumulative GPA of no less than 3.8
  • The university must be accredited
  • No more than two years since graduation
  • A recommendation letter from the university, or the degree certificate

The shared condition

  • Evidence of the ability to support family members and house them
  • ICP names no sum of its own for this condition

When this ground will not suit

The visa is granted for a result already achieved, not for an intention to study. Three cases.

You are only just entering a UAE university

A student residence visa is what you need: the university sponsors it for the duration of the course and sets no requirements on grades

More than two years have passed since graduation

The graduate window has closed. Look at the exceptional talent category: PhD holders and specialists in priority fields need only a degree and an employment contract

The GPA is below 3.8 but there is a well-paid job

The executive category: there they look at the contract, five years of experience and a salary from AED 50,000 — and not at grades

Documents to gather

The ICP list differs for school leavers and university graduates.

  • School leavers: a recommendation letter from the Ministry of Education and proof of academic excellence with a score of no less than 95%
  • University graduates: a recommendation letter from the university or a degree certificate with a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.8 from an accredited university
  • University graduates: proof that no more than two years have passed since graduation
  • Evidence of the ability to support family members and provide accommodation

Trips, renewal and the grace period

Not cancelled by an absence from the UAE of more than six months — unlike an ordinary residence visa

School leavers get five years, university graduates ten. Renewal follows the general golden visa rules, and its main privileges are the same as in the other categories: no sponsor needed, the status survives an absence of more than six months, and the holder sponsors the family themselves.

There is no standard route. Since 2021 UAE citizenship has been possible only by decree of the authorities — by nomination for investors, scientists, doctors and figures in the arts

Frequently asked questions about Golden Visa for outstanding students

Does a degree from a foreign university qualify?
Yes, if the university is accredited. ICP speaks specifically of accredited universities without requiring them to be in the UAE, though evidence of that accreditation is part of the pack.
Why do school leavers get a shorter term than graduates?
That is how the category table is built: five years for school achievements and ten for university ones. It is the only golden visa category where the term depends on the level of education.
How much money has to be shown?
This category has no sum of its own — it carries no financial threshold. But the ability to support the family and provide accommodation still has to be evidenced, and what to evidence it with is settled at filing.
