Immigration permit for studies in Andorra
A permit for those coming to Andorra to study, to undertake a placement, to train in high-performance sport or to carry out scientific research. It is issued by the Immigration Department. It is valid while the studies or placement continue: once the activity ends, so does the right to stay. The placement here is unpaid: a person with the relevant qualification gains experience at an Andorran company without yet entering the local labour market.

How to apply
The application is filed through the Andorran government's electronic public services portal (e-tramits.ad) with the required documents.
For students and pupils
- Prepare the documents on admission to the educational institution
- Confirm own financial means in accordance with the requirements
- Take out medical insurance in accordance with the programme's requirements
For trainees and interns
- Obtain a diploma or a certificate that it is being issued
- Provide confirmation of the work placement
- Confirm that you have not entered the Andorran labour market

Timelines and rights
Work
The permit is issued for studies, a work placement, high-level sports training or scientific research — not for work. Among the documents, it is confirmed that the applicant has not entered the Andorran labour market.
Trips, renewal and the grace period
Living in the country is permitted only while the studies, placement, training or research for which the permit was issued continue. The term of a study permit equals the academic year; for a placement, training or research — the term of the placement, training or research itself.
Once the period of study, placement, sports training or scientific research has ended, an application must be made to renew the residence permit under a separate procedure (F.1). The permit may be renewed if you are continuing your studies or other activity in Andorra.
What comes next: permanent residence and citizenship
Route to citizenship
Naturalisation is granted after 20 years of main and permanent residence in Andorra. Ten years suffice if the person completed the whole compulsory programme at Andorran schools with Andorran subjects. Previous citizenship must be given up: proof is brought within 5 years.
